I am Joseph Vermeille, a Proud American Citizen by choice or naturalization, a grateful son of my native Leogane, Haiti. The location of the disastrous earthquake that occurred in January 12, 2010. On May 1st, 2019, after 23 years of service, I retired as a Programmer Analyst and Application Systems Developer from Columbia University Technology Department (CUIT).

More About Me

Currently, I am a candidate for the PhD degree in Educational Technology at Walden University. Professionally, after leaving Haiti, I have worked a variety of jobs that included security guard, factory worker, dishwasher, restaurant helper, and taxi driver until I landed my first technology job at Wats/800 In Evansville Indiana as a Programmer. 

I have been in Information Technology for about 34 years performing as a Computer Science student, Computer Labs Manager, Field Service Engineer, Programmer Analyst, Programming and Computer Applications Instructor, Technology Consultant, and Application Systems Developer. 

I have worked for a variety of commercial and academic institutions including: Watts 800 Inc., Indiana Vocational Technical College, and the State University of New York College at Old Westbury, Suffolk Community College, Carlson Precast Inc., Medical Manager Corporation-North East, and The Career Center Inc.in Manhattan, New York.

My career includes the emphasizing on the 21st Century professional skills and attributes for success as a successful scholar practitioner upon completion of my dissertation which is a Case Study seeking to Investigating the influence of timely teachers’ technology training on teachers’ Technology competency and students’ academic performance in the 21st Century classroom.

I subscribe to the constructivist and connectivist epistemological learning theoriess as I am developing and nurturing special interests in Online Teaching and Learning, Open Source Technologies, Return on Investments in Educational Technology Investments, Just-in-time Curriculum, and Cloud Computing as critical topics in the fast technological landscape of the 21st Century. which will soon provide more insight into my current personal, academic, and professional activities.

My Timeline

Started Academic life at Ecole Epiphanie

A rural school in my native village of L’ACUL (Rural Area of Palmiste Avin in Leogane, Haiti at the age of 5 where my late father, Mr. Jean Fabius Vermeille was my first teacher.

1962

Completed Primary Education

I was transferred to Ecole Sainte Croix in the City Leogane (Haiti) in 1964, where I completed my primary education.

1971

Accounting

Two Years of completed training in Accounting at Ecole de Commerce Julien Craan. Two years of studies at Ecole Nationale d’Administration Financiere (ENAF).

Civil Engineering

Three years of unfinished studies in Civil Engineering at Institut Superieur Technique d’Haiti (ISTH) as well as one year of learning at Institut d’Etudes et de Recherches Africaines (IERAH).

Graduated High School

I then completed Secondary and High School education at College Saint Pierre, in Port-au-Prince (Haiti).

1978

Auditor

Three years as an auditor at the Finance Ministry of Haiti.

Came To The United States

I came to the United States where I obtained a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York, College at Old Westbury,

I acquired my Master's Degree in Technology Management at Columbia University (New York City) in 2009.
